post in which he is now acting, or as Deputy Registrar and

Accountant. The Chief Justice adds that Your Honour feels very

strongly upon this point and desires to lay your views before

me. I have therefore the honour to invite you to do so.

Deputy Registrar and Appraiser which has been left vacant by the

promotion of Mr. J. R. Wood. I made this recommendation after

consultation with the Registrar of the Supreme Court who stated

that he advised the appointment of Mr. Melbourne rather than

Mr. Lee-Jones, because (1) Mr. Melbourne has 12 years seniority

at the Bar: (2) he has been engaged in legal work since 1891,

part of the time in a Solicitor's office, part of the time in

practice at the Bar, and part of the time in Government

Service: and (3) he is mentor to Mr. Lee-Jones in the legal

branch of the service. Mr. J. H. Kemp has further expressed the

opinion
